Michael Rain

Michael Rain leverages storytelling and technology to expand the world’s perception of diverse communities. He is the founder of ENODI, a media and research company focused on people with immigrant backgrounds, with a keen interest in people of African, Caribbean, and Hispanic descent who identify as Black. Michael is best known for his TED Talk which has been viewed 1.3 million times and translated into 28 languages.

As a joint fellow with the Hutchins Center and Harvard’s Safra Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics, Michael Rain will work on a project will explore constructing an appropriate and effective ethical lens to address misinformation and disinformation affecting Black and immigrant groups in private digital messaging networks (PDMNs), with considerations for trust, cultural context, and historical perspectives for diverse communities. PDMNs are closed digital spaces such as WhatsApp groups, Discord channels, and Slack communities. This research will include an eye toward culturally relevant political content directed toward these communities.
