David Bindman is Emeritus Durning-Lawrence Professor of the History of Art at University College London. Author of many distinguished works, including Blake as an ArtistRoubiliac and the Eighteenth-Century Monument (winner of the 1996 Mitchell Prize in 1996), he also co-author with Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the series The Image of the Black in Western Art.  

For his fellowship project, Bindman will work on the volumes The Image of the Black in Latin America and Caribbean Art and The Image of the European in African Art.
