David Bindman (1940-2025)

We are deeply saddened by the passing of David Bindman, Emeritus Durning-Lawrence Professor of the History of Art at University College London, and a long-time affiliate of the Hutchins Center. David was the foundational force behind the landmark Image of the Black in Western Art publication series, serving as co-editor of 13 volumes, with two others underway at the time of his passing. His scholarship, insight, and generous spirit have left an indelible mark on the faculty and staff of the Hutchins Center as well as on the many cohorts of fellows with whom he was in community. He will be profoundly missed. Our thoughts are with all who knew and loved him.
