Exhibition Opening: "Still Running: Afro-Cuban Art"
On View April 3 - May 29, 2015
This exhibition showcases many of the artists that are currently on view at the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery for African & African American Art at Harvard University, as part of the exhibition Drapetomania: Grupo Antillo and The Art of Afro Cuba. "Still Running" is a homage to a forgotten visual cultural arts movemebt, Grupo Antillo, that thrived briefly between 1978 and 1983. This group articulated a Cuban culture that promoted the importance of African and Afro-Caribbean influences in the formation of the Cuban nation.
Curated by Astrid Martinez-Jones, with the colloboration of Alejandro de la Fuente, curator of Drapetomania: Grupo Antillo and The Art of Afro Cuba.
